Disappointing Dinner

July 25, 2009

I hate when you have such high expectations for dinner and it doesn’t live up to them. That is what happened to us last night, we have been wanting to try Sanctuary for a long time so we made reservations for the four of us at 7:30. We were seated right away and checked out the unusual menu, it was only one page and had a pretty limited selection.

Nothing was grabbing me for an appetizer, but Mike opted for the curry chilled strawberry soup while Sarc and Ivy shared a jalapeño caesar salad. I had one small taste of Mike’s soup and while it was ok, I am not a big chilled soup fan.

For our entree both Sarc and I ordered the special which was a Hawaiian white fish sandwich with Hawaiian bread, a cucumber relish and Harissa. While the flavor was ok, the portion was incredibly small. Only 3 small pieces of fish and what seemed like less than half a roll for each portion.

We had decided on not getting dessert there and heading somewhere else when the waiter brought us to complimentary desserts since we had both just gotten married. The dessert was the major redeeming quality. There was an apple cinnamon bread pudding made with croissants that was buttery and delicious, the chocolate torte with bananas and ice cream was amazing. Rich chocolate flavor with a hint of banana, so good! Overall, our service was great but the food was average and just not that different. We would go back for drinks and dessert though.

We thought the chairs looked like big throwns, so we both posed as King and Queens. Don’t the look cute!

After dinner we headed to a wine bar, Spill The Wine, and each had a glass. Mike opted for a Syrah and I had a Pinotauge from South Africa. Both were nice full bodied reds! We were feeling like one more place so we headed to Bario on Nicollet Mall and enjoyed their amazing homemade guacamole and chips, Sarc and Mike had beers while Ivy and I had Blackberry Mojito’s that were so good! Not too sweet but with a nice fruit flavor.

We were all tired and ready to get to bed, we drove home and all crashed. This morning we are getting ready, will grab some breakfast and then head to Hudson for our Wedding BBQ. I will be back to recap tomorrow.
