Wine Tasting, 10+ hours in the car, a weekend full of family = exhaustion

August 23, 2009

It turned out to be a better weekend than I expected. I left for my parents around 3:30 on Friday and made it in record time- 4 hours, 45 minutes with 2 stops. All that water smile_omg Friday night was low key, I hung out with my mom and step dad at their firepit and enjoyed a Brand Old Fashioned Sweet. This is a big Wisconsin drink and I love them! Its a special mix, brand and I always get mine with some sort of lemon lime soda and cherries. Yum!

I was up very early on Saturday morning and mom and I headed up to Door County for her 50th Birthday weekend, her sisters also joined us for some wine tasting, lunch, shopping and fun. I packed my breakfast and enjoyed it in the car on the hour and a half drive up there.

It had been at least 15 years since I had been to Door Country and I was amazed at how much it changed, it is much more commercialized than I remember but still very cute. There are a series of towns that line a highway on Lake Michigan. Lots of fun shops, vineyards with tastings, cute restaurants and B&B’s line the towns.

After 2 wine tasting stops we did a bit of shopping and I purchased a cute pair of orange sunglasses (my favorite color), a purple necklace and some plant decorators. We were all starving so we stopped for lunch at Bistro 42 which is part of a vineyard, they have pizza, Panini’s and soup for lunch so I opted for a turkey Panini with homemade potato chips minus the mayo. This was a huge sandwich and I only ate half of it. I also enjoyed a big glass of Malbec, I was getting a bit tired of fruit Door County wines. They are all good but I much prefer a big, heavy red!

Mom and I ate the last tasting, we don’t look that much alike! People are always surprised that

1) She has a 28 year old daughter

2) She will be 50 in September! She still gets carded. I hope I am that lucky when I am 50!

Such a beautiful view right across one of the tasting places-

We all headed back to my mom and step-dad’s and had a relaxing evening on the patio and enjoyed a few more old fashioned’s. I headed to bed about 11, I was exhausted after a day full of activity. It was nice seeing my mom and all of my aunts.

I was up early since I had planned to have breakfast with my dad, his girlfriend, my brother and his girlfriend before I made the 5 hour trek back to Minnesota. We met at a little restaurant off of 1-43 for a quick breakfast. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet with wheat toast, breakfast was arriving when I realized my camera was packed at the bottom of all my stuff in my car. Oops!

I was on the road by 10:30 and stopped at my grandparents house in Chippewa Falls for a visit, it has been much to long since I have seen them. I visited with my grandparents for about an hour or so and headed back on the road to get home and relax. I was exhausted! I got home about 4, did a bit of picking up and found the couch and haven’t moved since. I really should eat some dinner and put my breakfast and lunch together for tomorrow…
