An Ode to My Kindle

September 24, 2009

My dear Kindle, how do I love thee. Let me count the ways, one, two, 27. 27 is how many books I have read since I received my Kindle in April. That is a lot of books in 5 and half months! I was skeptical at first- I thought I would miss holding a book, turning the page, reading the back cover, seeing how much I had left. But… I don’t! I love being able to buy a book in less than a minute, I love being able to travel with one device. When we would travel I would bring 6-10 books with me in my bag, that takes up a lot of space!!

Right now I am reading Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay, this is an incredible book. My next book club in October will be discussing this book, I am looking forward to it.

De Rosnay’s U.S. debut fictionalizes the 1942 Paris roundups and deportations, in which thousands of Jewish families were arrested, held at the Vélodrome d’Hiver outside the city, then transported to Auschwitz. Forty-five-year-old Julia Jarmond, American by birth, moved to Paris when she was 20 and is married to the arrogant, unfaithful Bertrand Tézac, with whom she has an 11-year-old daughter. Julia writes for an American magazine and her editor assigns her to cover the 60th anniversary of the Vél’ d’Hiv’ roundups. Julia soon learns that the apartment she and Bertrand plan to move into was acquired by Bertrand’s family when its Jewish occupants were dispossessed and deported 60 years before. She resolves to find out what happened to the former occupants: Wladyslaw and Rywka Starzynski, parents of 10-year-old Sarah and four-year-old Michel. The more Julia discovers—especially about Sarah, the only member of the Starzynski family to survive—the more she uncovers about Bertrand’s family, about France and, finally, herself. Already translated into 15 languages, the novel is De Rosnay’s 10th (but her first written in English, her first language). It beautifully conveys Julia’s conflicting loyalties, and makes Sarah’s trials so riveting, her innocence so absorbing, that the book is hard to put down

I wasn’t feeling all that hungry so I had the last of my Greens + Berry Flavor Samples mixed with 4oz of Cranberry Juice. This was surprisingly good, no hint of greens flavor mixed with the juice.

Favorite Day of the Week

September 24, 2009

Happy Thursday! It is always my favorite day of the week :) A typical busy work day and not big plans tonight but I am hoping to relax! I have had stuff going on every night this week. Breakfast is a fuzzy Kiwi and a Peach Chobani, this was a good flavor pairing. I really enjoyed it!

Snacks are an apple, a cheese, and cucumbers. And to satisfy a bit of a chocolate craving, Annie’s Chocolate Bunnies. I need to find a few new veggies for next week, the cucumbers are getting a bit boring. Spaghetti Squash and Okra are on my list of veggies to try, hopefully I can find them!

I am really looking forward to lunch- a wrap with Applegate farms ham, a bit of Newman’s Caesar Dressing, some cheese on a Flatout Wrap. Peapods and sweet grapes that were on sale to accompany the wrap. Peapods are a veggie that I have to eat raw, they get to mushy when cooked.
