OM Restaurant Minneapolis

October 14, 2009

We went to dinner tonight at OM in Minneapolis, which is a new upscale Indian Restaurant and it was pretty good. My overall take is that it is a bit pricey for what you get but the atmosphere is very nice.

I got there a few minutes early so I studied the menu and did a some people watching at the bar. They offer a drink special of the day and $2 well drinks during their 4:30-6:30 happy hour. That’s a good deal!

The main seating area is downstairs, you walk down a beautiful staircase with a huge chandelier. We got seated and started figuring out what we wanted to order, I opted for a Flying Horse beer to drink and was still deciding on my main entree. For a starter they bring “crisps” made with chickpea flower and a bit of curry and spice, these were awesome. Give me a whole bag please ;)

For an entree I decided on a Vegetable Casserole with a Puff Pasty. It had saffron rice, veggies, cashes and raisins. a huge serving size!

They had 5 or 6 sides to choose from and we decided that Okra would be a good side to accompany the other dishes ordered. This was my first time trying Okra and it was ok, but I am not sure I would order it as an Indian Side Dish again. We got a side of basic Naan as well. I think Naan is almost always my favorite part of dinner, crispy bread- I am in!

A few beautiful desserts that were shared- Mango Cheesecake (I didn’t try that one ;) ) and a Coconut Crème Brule that was AMAZING!

I enjoyed our food, however found it a bit overpriced and while our service was good it was very slow! It took us 2 hours and no one had starters. At least we had great conversation.

Everything looks good, and at least you tried somewhere new.
Have you ever been to Restaurant Max? I have not, but I have a great recipe for scallops from the chef there that I am going to make this weekend.
