The much anticipated last day is here and I have a lot of mixed emotions about it. While I may not have loved what I was doing for about the past year I did have some very close work friends that I am really going to miss. I have been working here for 5 years and have grown an incredible amount during that time, I have had 3 roles, started and completed my MBA, was involved in about 5 different volunteer committees and made some incredible friends.
Some of the things that I will not miss- the corporate politics, the extreme budget cuts that we have dealt with the past few years, and the lack of diversity in terms of thought and status. About 90% of this place is middle aged white men and while they are important there could have been a better effort to include other age groups, ethnic groups and even associates from different industries.
I have lunch with my work best friend today and I think I might cry saying goodbye, she and I have spent A LOT of time together and I will really miss her. While I know we will stay in touch it will not be quite the same as seeing each other everyday.
This weekend I am heading to Wisconsin to see my mom and other family and hopefully relax a bit before I start my new adventure on Monday. So much for taking some time off
