No Fish but Falafel

January 8, 2010

We had been talking about going for fish fry all week at Molly Cool’s, fish fry is a very midwestern (even more Wisconsin) thing. Its some sort of white fish with potatoes, and coleslaw. Around 7 we headed to the restaurant only to find out the wait was 40 minutes :( Sigh, no fish for me tonight. Plan B was to check out, Ansari’s, a Mediterranean and Greek restaurant nearby that opened five or six months ago and we have been meaning to try.

Luckily they didn’t have a wait and we got seated immediately. After quickly reviewing the menu I decided on a on the Taste of Jerusalem which included
Tahini salad, kufta & chicken kabob served over rice, hummus, falafel, and gyros.

This was a HUGE amount of food, it seriously good have feed 4 people, I barely made a dent. The gyro meat was very tender and their hummus was awesome and the taste of tahini was really noticeable. Mike opted for a cup of lentil soup and the Taste of Morocco, Mediterranean salad, lamb shank served over a bed of soft couscous and vegetables.

The lentil soup was interesting, Mike enjoyed it but lentils are something that I just do not like. I have tried and tried and they taste mushy to me. :( I will keep trying- I want to like them.
