Friday evening we are going to a wine event titled: It’s Not A Sin To Love Zin (red, that is) and we were tasked with finding 2 good Zin’s and food to pair with them. For our 2 bottles of Zin we are bringing a DeLoach 2007 Zinfandel from Santa Rosa, California. The DeLoach Merlot is very tasty so we figured we should give their Zin a try.

Our 2nd bottle of Zin is a 2007 Plungerhead Old Vine Zinfandel out of Lodi, California. This was one where the lable and cute name sold us. Even the top sort of lucks like a plunger! It is named after Eddie Plongerheid, a loyal employee of the Winery.

For food pairings we bought a strong stilton to stand up to the flavors of the Zin and I made a Double Chocolate Cherry Bark.

Ingredients

  • 8oz Semi Sweet Chocolate
  • 8oz Bitter Sweet Chocolate (I used Ghirardelli for both)
  • 1/2 cup of Dried Cranberries
  • 1 cup of Almonds
  • 1 cup of Dried Cherries

Directions

  • Melt chocolate in a bowl over a pot of simmering water, it should take about 10 minutes.
  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and pour melted chocolate onto the paper and spread evenly
  • Top with cranberries, almonds and cherries.
  • Let set for at least 2 hours before breaking up into small pieces and storing

So Much Stuff

March 18, 2010

When you start packing and getting ready to move you realize just how much stuff you have. Boxes and boxes worth of stuff that has just accumulated since college. It is funny to think when I moved here in 1999 everything I owned fit in my parents mini van and now there is a whole house worth plus some.

In the month and a half we have had items in storage we have not needed one of those things, that should be a sign to de-clutter and just get rid of even more stuff.  I am not a pack rat by any means, in reality  I am a  tosser.  I do not keep things. They end up sitting in a box and I never look at them again. As we move and unpack I am going to make a very concentrated effort to get rid of the items I don’t need and give them to someone who truly has a need for them. Do I really need 20+ pairs of jeans? Probably not and I need to try harder to part with those I do not wear.

The one thing about moving I am really excited about is organizing things exactly how I would like them to be organized and starting out with things nice and clean. That makes me happy :)
