Fitness Trends

March 23, 2010

I am not bored with my workouts but I have been feeling kind of blah about them. In an effort to change things up and add a little excitement back to my fitness routine I was thinking about trying some of the “trendier” fitness activities.

Here are some of the trends I have heard about recently:

Zumba

Crossfit

Trx

P90X

HIIT Training

Yoga Sculpt Classes

Kettlebells

The Bar Method

Hot Yoga

In an attempt to freshen things up I want to try something new every month!

A few of my ideas to try in the next few months

Attend a new class at my gym

Try a yoga class I have never been to

Meditate

Find a zumba class near me

Find a TRX class near me

Rent a workout DVD from Netflix and try something different

I will report back each month on what I tried, the cost associated (if any), how I felt after and if I would go again. For the past 10 years  I have been a cardio and weights kind of girl. Occasionally I would go to a class and recently I added yoga in so I think it is time to have more fun with my workouts and change things up.

Any ideas on what I should try? What have you seen that is intriguing?

You can always tell when it is Spring Break time, the gym becomes very quiet in the morning. There were about 1/2 the people than normal this morning, the locker room was almost quiet. Must be lots of people off on trips or home with their kiddos. I enjoyed open equipment this morning :) I did 30 minutes and 4.8 miles on the Octane Elliptical and a back/abs workout that consisted of

Barbell Row 4 x 8,8,8,6

Lat Pulldown 2 x 10

T-Bar 4 x 8,8,86

Dumbbell Row 2 x 10

Swiss Ball Crunch 4 x 8,8,8,6

Leg Raises 4 x 8,8,8,6

Reverse Crunch 2 x 10

Medicine Ball Twist 2 x 10

I think my back is my favorite area to work out, I love feeling the top of the back stretch when I am lifting. When I got to work my first thought was breakfast, I added some granola to my Strawberry Chobani and had a Kind Bar shortly after.
