Catch Up at Bin36

July 30, 2010

This weekend in Chicago is all about catching up with friends, having good fine and wine and seeing Bon Jovi in concert tonight at Soldier Field. Chicago is one of our favorite cities to visit since we have great friends here but we love it for Bin36 wine bar. It is the best wine bar we have ever been to, they do a great selection of well known wines paired with newer up and coming vineyards and even their own label.

When Mike spent 3 years working here, Bin36 was his hangout. He spent 2 of those 3 years living in the Westin across the street so he would walk over for dinner and a glass of wine. Every time I would come to visit we would stop a Bin for a glass and meet up with friends. This has become our place to go in Chicago :) We head down every year for the Wine Blending in the fall and always have a blast doing that.

Last night we met up with Chris and Ivy, some former co-workers of Mike’s and Pete and Gretchen my brother and sister-in-law. We had a blast catching up with everyone and enjoying some appetizers and dinner.

Bin has some of the best fries and burgers so Mike and I split a burger and enjoyed the fries :)

Airport Entertainment

July 30, 2010

We had a chance to try out a new wine bar at the Minneapolis airport. Surdkys, which is the best wine shop in the Minneapolis area, recently opened a new wine bar and Italian market. What a great way to spend the time before a flight! We each ordered a wine flight and a sandwich. The thought of good food and wine at the airport makes me giddy :)

I ordered the Spain Flight that had a Tempranillo, a Monastrell and a Granacha that were great. A flight for $12 dollars is a decent deal at the airport. Mike had the Italian Flight that wasn’t quite as good, but still tasty.

What was even better were the sandwiches that we ordered, I had a panini with ham, cheese, an apricot spread and a pesto while Mike had a sandwich with roasted peppers, salami and mozzarella. Both were really good, especially for airport food!

I love that fact that a good wine bar opened at the airport. Something way better than a chain restaurant and crappy tap beer :)

Dancing Ganesha

July 29, 2010

On Wednesday night a few girls and I got a chance to try out the Dancing Ganesha in downtown Minneapolis. It was our monthly dinner for the Little Black Dress Club and we wanted something unique.

The Dancing Ganesha focuses on Indian Food and we all tried something unique. I had Chicken Tiki Dolsa which was a chicken dish that was wrapped in a crepe made from lentils and chickpeas. This was my first time drying dolsa and it was incredible. Crunch from the crepe and a nice spice from the chicken tiki. I LOVE Indian food and this place was great! A great collection of people and even better food! I love the blue bar, how pretty and fun :)

I can honestly say that I don’t think I have ever looked forward to 3 1/2 day weekend so much. I need some time off. It has been a crazy busy few weeks and I am looking forward to seeing friends, enjoying good fine and wine and am excited about Seeing Bon Jovi at Soldier Field :) We leave tomorrow afternoon and it can’t come soon enough. Mike spent 3 years working in Chicago so I definitely spent my fair share of time down there and have my favorite places. Bin 36 I can’t wait to have a glass of your red wine! I was all set to move to Chicago but Mike really wanted to stay close to his family and be able to afford the type of house we wanted. So Minneapolis area it shall be.

I just grabbed my lunch to eat at my desk and I was starving! After 3 hours of meetings I was ready to eat. Breakfast this morning was a trail mix bar and some fruit, but lunch was worth photographing :) Leftover fish and salad from last night. Even though I was that lady that smelled up the office with fish. Oh well, it is better than smelling the common flavors of Lean Cuisine that are a normal occurrence around here.

What would be the city that you would love to move to? My current cities are Paris, New York and Chicago. A girl can dream ;)

If You Can’t Take the Heat Make a Salad and Grill

July 27, 2010

It was HOT today in Minneapolis, around 96 and just way too hot to turn the oven on or spend much time in the kitchen. This Midwestern girl really can’t take the heat. I have no idea how Mo goes to the park when it is ONLY 96 in Phoenix. The Mahi Mahi from Trader [...]

Much Better

July 27, 2010

A night of good sleep, some antibiotics and a combination of Claritin and Sudafed have me feeling a million times better. I can breathe today! Definitely a step in the right direction. I probably got around 7 full hours of sleep which doesn’t usually happen, I am normally tossing and turning at least a little [...]

Thank You Minute Clinic

July 26, 2010

Right about now I would love to kiss the person who came up with the concept of Minute Clinic. I left work a little after 5 and was in a consultation room at Minute Clinic by 5:30. After going over symptoms and a few tests I walked out with a diagnosis and prescription. I loved [...]

Just Tea

July 26, 2010

The tickle in my throat started Thursday, by Saturday I was pretty congested and this morning  I woke up and I am full blown sick. Coughing, sneezing, runny nose and just plain tired. Boo! I managed to make it through the winter and not get a cold and now I get one towards the end [...]

Half a Century

July 25, 2010

This weekend we made the 5 hour car ride each way to celebrate my stepdad’s 50th birthday. A great surprise party that my mom did a fantastic job of planning. Even though he had suspicions that a party was being planned he still had a great time.                 [...]
