This morning I met up with Heidi to do a 7:30am C2 yoga class at CorePower in St. Paul and then head to a Real Food MN sponsored tour of the St. Paul Farmers Market and cooking demo with local cater and chef Molly Herrmann. The alarm went off at 6:45 am and I quickly took Clifford out, got dressing for yoga and headed out the door. The yoga class was very challenging this morning, it was already warm outside and the room was steamy. We had lots of focus on legs! One hour later both Heidi and I were ready for a shower before heading to the farmers market.
We joined up with our group and wandered around a VERY busy market, we stopped at the stands of some favorite local vendors and got to hear them talk about their food. Why they choose to participate, how they got into the business and why most of them utilize organic practices even though they are not certified. Hearing about local meat vendors, lots of good cheeses to try and a really cool small pasta company. I love to support people who have such passion about food.
After making our way through the market we headed back to CoCo, a collaborative working space, to do some cooking and tasting of all the wonderful food that was purchased at the market. Everything we enjoyed except for the lemon juice and garlic was bought on our walk! The dishes Molly demo’d were a cilantro pesto with red pepper flakes served over Spinach Linguini and the beet greens, a raw beet and corn salad dressed with yogurt and pesto and a Spanish style chorizo on the side. All the dishes were amazing and I actually kind of liked the beets! I do still think they taste like dirt but I will keep attempting to like those gosh darn things.
