Off To The Races

Sunday afternoon we had planned on heading out to Canterbury Park to see one of the last live racing days for the year. We were expecting about 14 for our couples group and knew it was going to be a great day for weather and soaking up some horse racing. I have only been to the track a few times in the eleven years I have been living in the Minneapolis area and I always forget how fun it is. You have the option to sit outside and take in some sunshine or inside with great views of the track. We found a spot that was partially in the sun so we could get a few minutes and then be comfortable in the shade and waited for the races to start.

 

The horses came out for the first race and got a few practice gallops in and got situated in the gates and they were off. The crowd really gets into it and loves it when a favorite wins, and on Sunday there were lots of favorites winning. We didn’t do any betting but one of the couples in the group ended up winning about $150 dollars on all the races. They picked all the winners for 5 of the races.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The highlight of the day for some of the kids was the Mascot Races where popular local mascots got lined up in the gate and they were off for a mad dash. Seeing the costumed characters trying to run was pretty humorous.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next year we need to plan on going earlier in the year so we can get a few trips in before the end of summer.
