Did you know that Heart Disease is the leading cause of death for U.S. Women? And the scary fact is that most women don’t know that they are at risk! The Minnesota Heart Institute Foundation is trying to increase awareness by sending out kits that include invitations and talking points to discuss Heart Disease risks.
Preventing heart disease in women with MHIF’s Wine Dinner Kit
Did you know that more than twice as many women die each year from heart disease than from all forms of cancer combined?
Surprisingly, many women don’t know that they are at risk for heart disease or that their symptoms may be different from those in men.
That’s why the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF) is launching a grassroots movement to bring heart disease prevention education into the homes of women throughout the country. This movement relies on the pleasure women get from sharing a meal and talking together—because if their conversation can include heart health education, lives can be saved.
Why a Wine Dinner?
We chose wine as a component for these dinners because resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant that occurs naturally in grapes, has been well documented to improve heart health. Wine is also festive. But guests need non-alcoholic drink choices, too, like grape juice, also high in resveratrol. And dinners don’t need to be elaborate.
About the Wine Dinner Kit:
The Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation has designed and printed action kits that provide all the tools needed for the Wine Dinner including:
1) A brochure with instructions on how to plan your gathering
2) An educational conversation guide will help keep your guests engaged,
the energy level high and the outcome of your party life changing
3) Ten pre-printed invitations to mail to friends
Starting in Minnesota and spreading throughout the country, women are taking heart health into their own hands and homes. Women are sharing glasses of wine (or grape juice), creating community and discussing vital new findings about heart health.
If you do throw a Wine Dinner, we’d love to know how it went so we can make these gatherings even more effective.

What a cool idea. I think any woman would want to come together for wine and friends. Plus helping a health issue in the process is great.

I love that this is your post and you are active about this. So many people are “so busy” including myself selfishly. I most certainly should be more active in making people aware of health risks! Nice post!
