Akita Sushi

January 26, 2011

I don’t spend a lot of time eating out in the suburbs but I do make exceptions for a few friends that live on the other side of the metro from me. Jess and I usually meet in Woodbury and this time it was for sushi. Yum! Akita is an all you can eat sushi and steakhouse for $24.95. Since I am not a huge eater I really don’t eat enough sushi to make it worth $24.95 but I do think it’s a good way to try some different kinds of fish.

We started with edamame, fried scallops, and some sashimi of salmon and yellow fin, nigiri of octopus and white tuna and then had a few more rounds of fish. My favorites are still yellow fin and salmon Smile I will stick with the basics.

Since they had so many items to choose from I figured it would be good to try a few other items, I had a bowl of udon noodle soup and sushi pizza. The soup was ok but the sushi pizza was not exactly good, crispy and mushy and a weird texture. Sushi pizza will not be going on a list of my favorite things.

I don’t eat enough to make all you can eat worth my money and driving to the other side of town is a bit much for sushi but I was happy about the sushi and our service was pretty good. If Jess wanted to meet their again, I would. But Akita is not going on my list of places to go back to.

Todays 30 in 30 for 30:

That I have access to unique food and like to try new things, life is all about experiences and I am glad I live in any area that has culture and lots of choice.

I’m actually a “All you can eat” restaurant’s worst nightmare. I get my money’s worth and then some. :) I probably shouldn’t be proud of that.

I don’t enjoy “All You Can Eat” restaurants or brunches. I always feel like I try to get my “money’s worth” or just don’t listen to my body and end up leaving feeling uncomfortable over just adequate food.

I was amazed at how much I enjoyed the yellow tail, I wasn’t daring enough to try the octopus, and then when you mentioned tenicles NO WAY!
The fried scallops were so good! It was a great way to try new things, and now I know what to order when I go out for sushi.

Sushi pizza?!? What was the crust, rice? Does not sound good…there is an all-you-can eat sushi place near my work and I’ve been there a few times, lunch is a much better deal, and I like being able to try things, but it really isn’t worth it for me either.

The crust was crispy rice and it was not very good!

I am shocked you didn’t say anything about the fruit fly’s. They were mildy annoying at first but got really bad towards the end of the meal.
