Sometimes finding the hidden gem restaurant in a tiny strip mall that has great food using authentic ingredients is hard to find but Friday for lunch my coworker Bridget and I found a great place. La Mixteca is on 78th and Portland in Bloomington in a small trip mall that isn’t too far from the office.
They have authentic working class food, with tacos, tamales, tortas and enchiladas. I opted for a torta with carnitas, black beans, lettuce, cheese, guacamole, cilantro and pico de gallo. This sandwich was HUGE and was only $7.75. I could barely eat half! You could tell the bread was fresh and the meat had been cooking all day in a huge pot you could see on the stove.
La Mixteca is a simple place, with 10-15 tables, great quick deli style service and real Mexican Coke in a glass bottle. What gets better than that! We will be heading back for lunch soon.
