Intro to Yoga

February 3, 2011

When my roommate decided he wanted to go to a yoga class with me I just about fell off the couch. Really? Yoga? I think that is awesome! So I found an Intro to Yoga class that would really go in depth about the typical poses and sequences found in a Vinyasa class.

The class was 60 minutes of breaking down the postures and she really broke every one down and talked about why the pose was done and how to be best transition. I was worried that I would be bored in class and not feel like I was doing yoga but I was wrong. There were only 4 of us in class and the instructor really explained each pose and how your body should look. She walked around and gave adjustments.

In the year and half that I have been practicing yoga I was never quite doing the chaturanga series exactly right, I was going to fast through the “push-up”. Those few little adjustments that she made to my alignment really made a big difference!

What did the roommate think? That it wasn’t too bad, he was to do all the postures except for half pigeon. I think I just might be able to get him to go to a full 60 minute vinyasa class. Maybe.

I left really energized about my yoga practice and my new found perfect better than before posture. I am looking forward to deepening my practice and gaining even more benefits from yoga.

Sometimes it’s nice getting back to the basics to make sure your form is right. :)

I like taking a lower level class every once in a while, I think it is really good for looking at your postures, etc.
PS. I took Richie to a hot power fusion class. He was dripping sweat before it started….and never came back. :) hehe

That’s awesome! My boyfriend said he’d come with me to yoga for my birthday, which is an awesome present. I agree, sometimes it’s helpful to go back to the basics and tweak things. My teacher helped me with chaturanga too, and it makes SUCH a difference. Have a great weekend!
