Becoming a Yogi

March 7, 2011

For years I was a strictly cardio and weights girl, I rarely went to classes and I had never gone to a true yoga class. Fast forward a year and a half and I have become a yogi who can do crow, headstand and almost achieved side crow at a a class recently. What happened to me?

I find myself looking forward to every yoga class, I almost always have my yoga mat with me and I even have an online resource I use just in case I am going to be gone for a few days. I made myself a home yoga studio at my Mom and Step Dad’s basement over the weekend. They have this amazing pellet stove that heats up the space nicely and I put my yoga mat down on a cushy rug, plugged in my computer and flowed away to a Vinyasa Balance Class and the next day was a Vinyasa Heart Openers.

There are a few items that I have grown to love, my Jansport yoga bag that has room on the front for my mat, my yogitoes towel, a really good hairband and yoga capris that make it easier to do some of the balancing postures.

If you are looking forward a good online resource check out Core Power On Demand. For $99 for the year you have access to unlimited online yoga classes and last I checked there were over 70 options. I love the instruction and that they are similar to the in studio yoga classes I take.

So where do I go next with yoga, I want to work my way up to Level 3 classes and achieve some of the more advanced postures, someday take teacher training, and my big stretch goal of maybe even owning a yoga studio!
