Wine Wednesday- Cannon River Winery

March 23, 2011

In a quest to visit all the wineries within a short drive from the Twin Cities I figured it was time to visit the Cannon River Winery in downtown Cannon Falls. About an hour from Minneapolis, Cannon Falls is a small historic town along the Cannon River. A few years ago they were looking for ways to revitalize the downtown and inject some tourism and a winery was discussed. A place for people to gather, enjoy some locally grown wine and perhaps go for a bike trip after. For $7 you get to taste all the wines they make, that’s a really good deal!

I really enjoyed the Nouveau and the Apple wine. While I am not normally a big fan of fruit wines the apple was so light and refreshing and tasted like you picked an apple off the orchard tree. So delicious!

Apple wine is so intriguing. I haven’t sampled many fruity wines, but my mind kind of wanders and thinks about how the vinegar version of those wines would taste, lol.

Don’t you just love wine tours? They are so much fun and it’s neat to discover all the different flavors of wine available and how each winery has something unique in it’s process.
