What else do you do on a week off? Have dinner with a girlfriend! I met up with my friend Ashley on Thursday night to catch up on new jobs, travel, new nieces and nephews, and just to enjoy a great dinner.
The Purple Sandpiper has been open a few months and focuses on locally grown food that focuses on Minnesota flavors. We opted for a bottle of Kono Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, a light citrusy wine wine that paired well with each of our dinners.
A few pieces of freshly baked bread, including a warm pretzel bread that was delicious. Ashley ordered the Fig and Prosciutto Salad and I settled on the duck with wild rice and green beans. The salad used Minnesota made prosciutto that has a wonderful salty flavor while the duck was cooked perfectly with a balsamic based sauce.
I was surprised that it wasn’t very busy for a Thursday evening, I hope they are getting enough business! I appreciate their effort to try and use local and organic foods and offer interesting menu choices. A few minor criticisms are the lack of fresh ground pepper, the wine list is a bit small, and the prices seem a bit high.
Our service was very friendly and fast, the waitress had suggestions on the food and gave her opinion on the wines we were looking at. I would love to go back and try their breakfast menu.
