Clifford’s Bad Day

May 18, 2011

Today was a hard day for both Clifford and I. As a dog Mom I felt like the worlds worst person leaving Clifford at the vet crying and shaking. There were tears in my eyes as I drove away! This morning I dropped Clifford off about 8 for his teeth cleaning because he kept rubbing at a tooth on his lower right jaw.

The vet figured that it was because he had some sort of infected tooth that they might need to remove, in addition to doing the cleaning. I got a call about 10am saying they needed to remove a tooth but not the main molar and not because of an infection but Clifford had managed to get a wire spring from a pen lodged around his lower back molar. It was so lodged on their the only way to get it off was to remove the tooth.

See that tooth in there? That wire was stuck on there and causing pain and an infection. No wonder why he kept pawing at and had horrible breath. He was being tortured by a wire wrapped around a tooth. Poor thing! Neither the vet nor I were able to see it by just opening his mouth. I am so glad that he had his teeth cleaning scheduled and that once he was under anesthesia they could see what was causing him all that pain.

He was so excited to see me when I picked him up from the vet, his tail was wagging even though he was very medicated. Tonight he will be lounging on the couch!

Now that it is finally starting to get warmer in Minnesota I have been on the search for a few more white wines to add to my list.  I have had a lot of Argentinian reds but their whites are new to me. The wines of Argentina have really grown in popularity over the last few years, especially Malbec’s and Torrontes. The rate at which Argentinian wines has grown is fascinating! From almost nothing to millions of cases!

Torrontes is grown in Argentina and has very similar qualities to Muscat,  light bodied, dry, delicate, floral, with hints of citrus, and spice. Torrontes has even been called Malbec’s white counterpart. Affordable, unique and provides a great value for your money. It is traditionally bottled young and un-oaked. I have found that the more whites that I try the more I find that I really enjoy dry and delicate flavors.

I came across a bottle of Sparking Torrontes and figured for $10 I should give it a try. When I went to check out the sales associate commented that it was a good choice and that I would really like it. He was right! Light, crisp, a little bit sparkling and it paired really well with some Grass Fed Cheddar Cheese and a chance to sit out on the deck Smile What’s not to like about that!
