Since Memorial Day Weekend is only a few days away I figured a whole week of wine posts was in order to celebrate the unofficial kick off of summer. Instead of just Wine Wednesday everyday will be devoted to wine. Kicking it off is a visit to the Goose Lake Winery.
Spending the day touring local Minnesota wineries is a really great way to spend a rainy sunny rainy sunny crazy Minnesota weather Saturday. The s.o and I met Jess and Ben for a day of touring 3 wineries.
The first winery on the list was the Goose Lake Farm and Winery in Nowthen (yes, there is a town in Minnesota called Nowthen). Goose Lake is a working farm and winery. They have a tasting room, quite a few acres for growing and even a little mini market on the weekends.
We were a little bummed about the rain since we weren’t able to get outside and enjoy an almost summer day. We made the best of it! At Gooselake for $5 dollars you got 7 samples and were able to keep the glass. I choose a two fruit wines, three of their traditional wines and two dessert.
The resident cute winery dog-
Beet Wine: I had to try it and I learned my lesson. I won’t be drinking any beet wine again. Just imagine drinking beets.
Chokecherry: Very tart but had a noticeable cherry flavor
Nowthen Red: A medium body red that had hints of vanilla
Nowthen White: A golden white that had noticeable citrus flavor
Red Hen: A bit more acidic with lots of lush fruit
Blackberry: Strong blackberry flavor that was pretty sweet. Would be a great dessert wine.
Goose Lake Dessert Wine: Made with black raspberries, blueberries, cherries with vanilla and chocolate.
The owners were in the tasting room and I really do love chatting to hear about how they got started and what their vision for the winery is. Jess and I got to take a peak upstairs to see where they have private events and a great view of the farm and winery. To bad it was pouring out ![]()
The quote I need on my future kitchen wall:
