Café Levain

May 24, 2011

Café Levain has been on my list for quite some time and the s.o. and I finally got a chance to check it out on Saturday evening. After a busy day of a yoga class, visiting 3 wineries, and errand running we were ready for a good dinner that we could sit down and enjoy.

We arrived a few minutes early for our 7:30 reservation but were seated right away. A cute table for two in the back corner that was a great spot for people watching.

Since we had been enjoying wine samples most of the afternoon we opted to stick with water and an iced tea for me on the side. It was really good iced tea! Freshly brewed, a hint of citrus flavor and nice and cold on a humid/stormy evening. The chef had sent out a small tasting of the cauliflower soup that had toasted almond, brown butter, a bit of chili oil and Grana Padano cheese. What is not to love about that? Just the right amount to go with a bit of crusty French bread.

Continuing on the cauliflower theme, I had the Steelhead trout with roasted cauliflower, kale, brown butter and lemon. The best part? Crispy fish skin. Seriously delicious.

Simple roast chicken with cannelini beans, kale, parmesean, brown butter and lemon was the s.o’s choice. See a them here with the kale, brown butter, cheese and lemon? Just a few of the seasonal options available right now in Minnesota.

Our service was fantastic, our waiter was very knowledgeable and offered suggestions. The food was out pretty quickly during their peak dinner time and we had lots of great people watching. I would love to go back later in the summer to see how their menu changes.
