I bought a Groupon for The Yoga Pioneers for an unlimited month. Today was yoga class number 3 since Tuesday and I definitely figured out that 80 minutes is my wall for yoga. I do ok for 60 minutes at 105 degrees but that extra 20 minutes is really challenging.
The Gourmand (what the s.o. will be referred to going forward) and I went to an 80 minute hot yoga class. It was an 8:30 am class and really full! I am glad we arrived early enough to get two spots. There was maybe another one or two spots open right before the class started. For the first time in the nearly two years that I have been doing yoga there were more men than woman in the class. This is so great! There were 5 or 6 members of the local fire department in attendance and they all worked so hard. They may have been new to yoga but they gave it their all and as I was walking out the door most of them mentioned how great the class was.
The Yoga Pioneers studio is based on bikram and focuses on a set series of postures with scheduled water breaks and and a very even flow between postures. Since I didn’t want to eat a full breakfast before 80 minutes of yoga we each ate a Gatorade G Series that I was sent to review. It is a 3 step system with a energy bite to start. Cranberry pistachio flavored and it was decent tasting and held me over for a bit. I had one of those morning where my stomach was growling all through class. Oh well, that is all part of the body.
During class I tried the Perform beverage in Melon Pear and I liked the light flavor, I didn’t notice any extra energy or stamina but it was a long class and I needed all the fluids I could get.
The recovery drink in Strawberry Banana was nasty. I have heard the other flavors are much better. I just don’t recommend the Strawberry Banana! Chalky, kind of runny and just plain gross. The nutrition stats on it were pretty good, a solid amount of protein. I would try this again but in another flavor.
