The Perfect Studio

June 23, 2011

I have been practicing yoga for almost 2 years and it took me that long to really enjoy hot yoga. I had taken a few heated classes but had only tried a true hot yoga class once. About a month ago Moksha Yoga opened in Minneapolis and they had free classes for a week so I went to three classes and was surprised by how much I liked it. That same week a Groupon was offered for a yoga studio near my house (Yoga Pioneers). I think I paid $40 for an unlimited month, that is a great deal for yoga! Since cashing in my Groupon last Tuesday I have gone to 5 hot yoga classes.

After 5 classes in a little over a week I think I am officially addicted to hot yoga. I understand the order of the poses now, I find myself getting deeper into postures than I ever have before, during final savasana I am able to fully relax my mind and just be in the moment. Quiet and contemplative is very hard for me!

Finding the right yoga studio involves a lot of trial and error, you try a few out and take some classes and figure out which ones work for you. What I evaluate about each studio:

  • Cost
  • Location
  • Parking
  • Atmosphere
  • Schedule
  • Changing area/locker room
  • Instructors
  • Overall sense of community

In a perfect world I would find a studio that is less than 20 minutes from my house that has free parking, a calm atmosphere with a variety of classes including hot yoga, yoga sculpt, vinyasa, and most importantly be affordable. I have yet to find the perfect studio so I have been attending sculpt and vinyasa classes at the yoga studio that is part of my gym and supplementing with packages from hot yoga studios.

Hot yoga is really the only kind of yoga that I truly enjoy. I likenknowing the order of the poses and what’s coming next. I might have to check this out while in mn

Isn’t it amazing?! I belong to Corepower, which I love because of the variety of classes offered, the number of locations and the fact that one studio is 2 blocks away.

Sounds so awesome! We should set up a yoga date sometime and go together (and maybe a dog date afterward with Cooper and Clifford. =)

Location of the gym is one of the most important factors for me. I love to be able to run/bike/roller blade to the gym any time of the year.
