How’s that for alliteration? The Midwest isn’t typically known for producing great wine but that has really started to change. One of my favorite wineries is Chateau St. Croix, it really feels like a true winery experience.
A long weekend calls for spending a few hours wine tasting, the Gourmand, my friend Jess and I headed over to two wineries in Wisconsin. First up on the list was Indian Creek Winery and Grill. Both Jess and I had a Living Social deal for wine tasting and $30 to spend on wine. Sounds exciting right? That’s what we thought.
Turns out Indian Creek is really more of a restaurant with some Wisconsin wines, the $30 dollars to spend on wine really didn’t get you very far either. Most bottles were in the $22-28 range. The tasting was 4 kinds of wine from Wisconsin for each for us, 8 tastes between 3 of us. We got a good idea of what we liked and really didn’t like. A few local wines and a few from the Door Country area. A wine that I really enjoyed? An Apricot Wine, very sweet but it would be perfect on a hot day. Hmmm. I don’t think I would go back for wine but I would love to try their food. They focus on truly using local foods and don’t even use a large food delivery service. That is impressive.
Our afternoon quickly turned around when we headed to Chateau St. Croix for tasting, tours, a chance to watch polo-cross and an afternoon picnic. We toured the Chateau and took in all the beautiful scenery. This place is so gorgeous!
I had visited the Chateau before so the wine’s were not new to me but the chance to sit outside and enjoy some Cheesehead White and our picnic with plenty of cheese

We go to Three Lakes every summer, and there is a little winery there that we discovered last year… so cute! Love your pictures, too!
