People’s Organic Wine and Coffee Cafe

July 22, 2011

With a temperature of 97 degrees and a heat index of 107 there was no way I was going to spend any time in the kitchen! I think everyone else in the Twin Cities had the same idea, the Gourmand and I tried two places that were way too busy and finally settled on People’s Organic Wine and Coffee Cafe. I had a $30 dollar Groupon I had purchased a few weeks ago and decided to use that up. I really wanted to love this place, with a focus on farm to table food with many gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. They have a great open space with fun and modern decorations. A huge selection of coffees and teas, a unique menu and a pretty good wine list. So what’s not to love? The service. It was painfully bad! I feel horribly saying that but we arrived at 6, waited 10 minutes for someone to even bring us water, waited another 5 to order drinks and food. Our food came out but we never got our wine. I asked for it 3 times and finally cancelled it.

I got a veggie wrap that had cashews, veggies, herbs, chickpeas and brown rice on a sprouted tortilla with chips and a pickle on the side. It was pretty good and thankfully warm when I got it.

The Gourmand had a Chicken and Goat Cheese Ciabatta with a side salad, he enjoyed the sandwich and the salad but gave the place a 0 because of the extremely slow service.

Our water glasses were empty and never refilled, and I finally broke down and ordered a flight because I needed to get to $30 dollars to use up my Groupon. I waited 20 minutes for a flight of wine. The excuse? We are out of glasses and washing and chilling them. Ouch! I know it is not the servers fault when things are so chaotic but he was less than apologetic.

The manager finally came out and was trying to smooth things over, her peace offering was a beer flight on the house. I never asked for it and was thankful that she offered but that doesn’t make up for really bad service.

I don’t think I would go again if I saw that it was really busy, they were ill equipped to handle the crowd and many customers left really annoyed and saying they wouldn’t come back.
