Wine Wednesday Rueda Verdejo

July 27, 2011

My quarterly case from the Wall Street Journal Wine Club arrived last week and I was very excited to break into it and see what fun bottles were in there. After letting the box rest for a few days I opened up the box and dug out all the whites and got them in the fridge.

The first bottle that I tried was a 2010 Rueda from Spain. Rueda is a new type of wine for me,  it is grown in the Rueda region of Spain from the Verdejo grape. It typically has citrus, floral and mineral flavors and retails for $9 to $15 dollars a bottle.

Rueda started to become popular as a wine region in the late 1970’s and its popularity in the United States has really grown in the last few years. Verdejo is a very drinkable light white wine, a perfect summer glass.

One little issues with this bottle though… do you see that little black spot. Yup. That’s a bug inside the bottle. And yes I drank the wine. What’s a little big in your wine, just pour it out and drink up.
