About a month ago I submitted a recipe idea for a Newman’s Own Video that featured both Clifford and I, I figured after all that he has been through he deserved a tasty meal. Foodbuzz and Newman’s Own sent a nice package with a Flip Camera, some Newman’s Own Pasta sauce, salad dressing and a coupon for a free Thin and Crispy Pizza.

I did a little research and came up with two dog friendly dishes that I knew I would enjoy and that Clifford would really love. He is a big time veggie lover and was a big fan of the Raspberry and Walnut Orzo Salad. It was inhaled in about 2.2 seconds. The salad was great lunches for me at work this week too.

If you are going to be sharing food with your dog it is important to remember the foods that are off limits for them:

Grapes/Raisins

Avocado

Alcohol

Onions/Garlic

Chocolate

Sugar and Candy

Raspberry and Walnut Orzo Salad

Ingredients

1 box orzo, cooked

1 cucumber, diced

1 pint raspberries

1/2 cup walnuts

2 ounces feta

Salt and Pepper

1 bottle Newman’s Own Raspberry and Walnut Dressing

Directions

  1. Cook orzo according to package directions, run under cold water to cool completely
  2. In a large bowl add in cooked and cooled orzo, cucumber, raspberries, walnuts, feta, salt/pepper and bottle of Newman’s Own Raspberry and Walnut dressing.
  3. Serve immediately or chill for a few hours

Orzo Salad

Italian Flank Steak

Ingredients

1 pound flank steak

1/2 bottle of Newman’s Own Family Style Italian Dressing

Salt and Pepper

Pinch of Red Pepper Flakes

Directions

  1. Combine dressing, salt and pepper, red pepper flakes and steak in a large re-sealable plastic bag. Marinate for 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.
  2. Cook steak on the grill about 6 minutes for medium rare
  3. Cut against the grain and serve

This was the perfect summer meal, a cold beer, a big glass of iced tea, and a bit of the raspberry/walnut orzo salad and a corn, mint and quinoa salad. My idea of summer perfect.

On a side night check out the new bright orange and white placements I scored for a dollar each at Bed Bath and Beyond.  I have a serious love of placemat and dishes! And gotta love the fact that they are orange. My happy color!
