Mickey’s Diner

September 24, 2011

I’ve lived in the Twin Cities for over 12 years and somehow I have never been to Mickey’s diner. A classic in downtown St. Paul, that is open 24.7.365. Mickey’s is an Art Deco dining car that is tiny, with some counter seats and a few tables the place always seems to be busy.

Classic decor, classic menu, even a jukebox at each table. None of us had quarters or we would have tried it out!

What do you order at a diner? Usually a chocolate malt and a burger. 4 of the 5 at the table did a burger but I had to be the odd one out and order a grilled cheese with tomato and bacon and a big bowl of chili. Serious comfort food on a chilly fall night!

Everything was delicious, the beans, the fries, the burgers but the grilled cheese was just what I wanted. What’s not to love about a grilled cheese with bacon. Our service was quick and friendly, our food showed up within minutes of ordering and within a half hour we were on our way out the door. Another iconic place checked off the list!

Huh, I’ve never been there either! I’m glad you had a good experience.
