Since it is well documented that I firmly believe that you should drink what you like and that there are no “rules” to wine drinking, I have no issue with drinking a big glass of red wine on an 80+ degree day. Granted, it is October in Minnesota and there have 26+ inch snow storms during this time of year but this year is all about warm. Beautiful weather that is so perfect and reminds us why we live in this state. I just know that by typing this its going to end up cooling off and I am going to regret bragging about the amazing weather. Please Mother Nature don’t punish us for loving this
Even though it was 80+ degrees last night I wanted a nice big glass of red wine. So I picked a lighter and younger red. Now young does not equal bad, just a different flavor profile. One that I happen to like! Young wine tends to have much more forward berry flavors and even tends to be lighter in color and texture.
A 2010 Saint Francois Syrah from France that was part of my Wall Street Journal Wine Club shipment in August. It retails for around $13 a bottle and was a very nice wine, light and fruity.
If you are looking for a heavier flavor, try aerating it. That really opens the wine up and give a bit more complexity. I have a similar aerator to the picture below, and if you try a test of opening a bottle and pouring one glass and aerating the other you might be surprised at just how different they taste.

I agree….there are no rules in wine. Except one actually: just enjoy!
