Smashburger

October 25, 2011

An invitation to come to the pre-opening party for the new Smashburger in Highland Park. Yes please! It was my first visit to the chain that focuses on cooked to order burgers with fresh buns and delicious shakes. The boyfriend and I headed out hungry and ready to eat, the timing was perfect.

We were able to select an entree, side, beverage for our dinner. My choice? A BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, minus the BBQ. I know, a bit weird, but I don’t like BBQ sauce. The burger was on an egg bun, with cheddar and bacon and topped with haystack onions. My side of choice? Rosemary sweet potato fries, crispy and salty goodness. As usual, I ate about half. I eat until I am satisfied and then stop, it works for me.

The boyfriend’s choice? The spicy baja with pepper jack cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, onion, spicy chipotle mayo and fresh jalapeños on a spicy chipotle bun. Inhaled in 2.2 seconds, I think that was the fastest I have EVER seen him eat. I asked him if it was good, I got a big nod and something murmured that I couldn’t understand because his mouth was full ;) His side? Fried pickles. No surprise there since he can go through a Costco sized tub of pickles every week.

They were passing out samples of shakes, between the two of us we tried the butterfinger, nutterbutter, oreo and chocolate. I had a few sips of each and loved all of them. I am not a big ice cream or shake person but these were all pretty darn good, being made with Haagen Dazs doesn’t hurt either.

With a tagline of smash.sizzle.savor and fun decorations it is hard not to like Smashburger. In the mood for a quick dinner with some unique flavors? Give Smashburger a try, they do have chicken, veggie options and salads as well.
