Winery number 2 on the Sonoma visit with my cousin Garrett, Michel Schlumberger. Off the beaten path, small, picturesque and trying a bottle of wine that was 20 years old. Pretty darn cool!

I would love to move into the courtyard…. maybe someday Smile

1991 Cabernet Sauvignon, good. Not great. It may have been a few years past its peak. Flavor profiles from my cousin the wine professional? Nail polish remover. Hmmm. Not sure I love that smell in my wine.

Stouts

November 28, 2011

My friend Bobby and I try to grab dinner once a month to catch up on life and solve the worlds problems. I’m not kidding! At dinner we discussed the wage gap between men and women and how that is changing as the number of women with degrees now outranks men. Not exactly light conversation at dinner but very entertaining. On the list of places to try was Stouts Pub, a restaurant a few blocks away from Bobby’s house in Falcon Heights.

Big beer list, appetizers and wood fired pizzas. Sounded interesting to me! Stouts has only been open a few weeks so they are still working out the menu and beer list so Bobby and I ordered a Mediterranean pizza, turkey jerky and chips with guacamole. First impression? The pizza was good and I loved the addition of the capers.

The turkey jerky was tasty but could have used some more spices and pepper

Guacamole was decent, but I’ve had better.

I had one tiny pumpkin beer, on happy hour for $5 dollars. Bobby guessed that it was pumpkin by just smelling it. Sometimes one is all I want.

The one thing that Stouts really has going for them is their service, our waiter was fantastic. He stopped by often to check on us, made recommendations on the food and gave me a little sample of a beer I was unsure about. I would go back once they have more of their menu in place and a few more beers on tap. Judging by how busy it was I hope this place turns into a good neighborhood spot.

Sevilla

November 26, 2011

First full day in Sevilla and we walked the city, toured the alcazar and spent hours in the cathedral. Seeing the incredibly ornate decorations and climbing 30+ flights of stairs to head to the tower for amazing 360 degree views of Sevilla.

Walking the city, stopping at a small cafe for lunch and just taking some time to relax and enjoy vacation. I love having two weeks to not feel so rushed!

Big Rock!

November 25, 2011

Ron’s biggest goal of the trip was to head to Gibraltar and see the big rock. On a clear day you can see to Africa. Pretty amazing! A creaky cable car ride later and we were at the top. The monkeys came to visit and repeatedly try to steal any tourists items they could. I [...]

Wine Wednesday- Colosi Nero D’Avola

November 23, 2011

The search was on for a red that multiple people would like, nothing to tannic or strong and something that would make my heavy red tastebuds happy. The solution, a 2009 Colosi Nero D’Avola. Retails for $14 and it was $34 at a wine bar. Markup was what I expected it to be. [...]

For our first night in Madrid we headed to La Musa, a recommendation from The boyfriends friend Micki. A tiny tapas bar not to far from the university. Two glasses of the house red and the tapas sharing menu for two, sausage and fritas for Ron, a caprese salad and croquettes for my Mom. Both [...]

A Little Bump

November 20, 2011

Long and frustrating would be the words I would use to describe our first 24 hours of vacation. Thanks to the first storm of the season our flight left Minneapolis almost an hour and a half late which made us miss our connection to Madrid from JFK. Thankfully Delta had one really good customer service [...]
