Foodbuzz typically goes all out for the Saturday evening dinner, the pulled out a big star to do a cooking demo this year. We all got to watch Tyler Florence cook away in the dinner sponsored by Alexia. He introduced the bloggers who had submitted recipes for a new flavor of Alexia fries, talked to us about his view on food, made some of the best smelling pork chops and spaetzel. It is too bad that we didn’t get to try it!

I was disappointed in the actual dinner, I am a bit biased because the last two years have had amazing gala dinners though. This year felt like wedding food. Now I understand that is really hard to serve that many people but the food was bland and boring. The cocktail hour featured French fries and drinks and I just cant satisfy my hunger with that. A few appetizers on the table including butternut squash risotto bites, roasted wild mushroom vegetable samosas and a few sushi rolls. Decent, but not great.

A salad course of bibb lettuce with pears, pecans, and blue cheese and the entree of filet mignon and roasted prawns. Ending with the dessert which was so disappointing :( Cheesecake I couldn’t eat, bread pudding that was as hard as a hockey puck and chocolate that I took a few bites of.

I really do love being in a room full of food bloggers and learning all these great things but was so disappointed in dinner. I hope next year redeems itself!

Month 3 of the Secret Recipe Club and I opted for baked goods. Surprising! I am not a big baked goods eater but the boyfriend loves anything with pumpkin and when I came across this recipe on Susie’s blog Sweetie Pettiti I knew I would have a winner. Susie blogs, bakes, crafts and cooks, she always has some interesting adaptations to a recipe too.

Brother Boniface’s Pumpkin Bread

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 60 minutes

Makes: 2 loaves

Ingredients

4 cups flour
3 cups sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
1½ teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon allspice
½ teaspoon cloves
¼ teaspoon ginger
4 eggs
1 cup oil
1 can pumpkin (15oz)

1/3 cup water

1/3 cup apple cider

Directions

Beat first 14 ingredients at medium speed with a mixer until moistened.

Pour into greased loaf pans.

Bake at 350° for an hour or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pans and turn onto a rack to finish cooling.

Changes I made, I didn’t add nuts and I substituted half of the water for apple cider. I brought this bread to work and I don’t think it lasted more than 20 minutes. I loved looking through all of Susie’s recipes! By the time I was done looking I had bookmarked 6 different recipes and I know I will be making her homemade dog treats. Clifford, Tanner and Tuscany would LOVE them.
