The search was on for a red that multiple people would like, nothing to tannic or strong and something that would make my heavy red tastebuds happy. The solution, a 2009 Colosi Nero D’Avola. Retails for $14 and it was $34 at a wine bar. Markup was what I expected it to be.
Nero D’Avola is one of those Italian varietals that is either fantastic or too thin. This wine was a too thin but the flavor was very pleasant, hints of ripe red berry and cheery with a slight earthy taste. I liked it but didn’t love it. Drinkable? Yes. But not something I would rave over. I will give it credit for making 3 wine drinkers with very different palates satisfied. That has to count for something.
I love the label, I think it would make beautiful art in a kitchen or dining room. Oranges, red and greens with pretty foliage. I might do some searching online to see if I could find a print of this.
