Wine Wednesday: Sandeman Founders Reserve Port

December 21, 2011

**This is Scott’s first post. He is the port lover in this relationship and when I was offered the chance to sample a few, I figured Scott would be super excited. The day they arrived in the mail he excitedly texted me that I had wine waiting for me. It was fun to have him open the boxes and see really good port. He was beyond ecstatic. If I wouldn’t have had the good camera with me he just might have had one of the bottles by the time I got home later that night Winking smile **

Scott’s Review:

A company that has been around for 300+ years and has had a family running it for 7 generations probably knows a thing or two about port. The first bottle to sample was the Founders Reserve from Sandeman. This being a great starter full of rich flavors that truly enhanced the palate.

I found this very interesting, from all the different ports I have tried it was right up there with some of my favorites. The Founders Reserve can also be served on ice as an aperitif. My preference for port is slightly below room temp.

Thoughts on the flavor? Berries, a bit of oak and a lighter port to start out with. This is a great starter to any occasion that even the occasional port drinker will love. Stay tuned for the follow up of the next two Ports.

Founders Reserve retails for around $15 dollars a bottle

My thoughts? Good and I am not a huge port fan. From what used to be a no thank you to even trying it, I will now do a small glass. All about learning to like new things.

Port is a little rich and sweet for my tastes. I prefer a nice glass of grape juice.
