More Lemons

January 25, 2012

That feeling when you get comfortable and things are going really well. Sometimes you just know that feeling won’t last forever. And I was spot on that feeling. I didn’t know what but I had this little knot that something might happen. It did.

I lost my job on Monday. Scary and unexpected but it happened and now I move on. Our budgets were really tight this year and I knew sales were down but I didn’t think they would do more layoffs. Funny how that when you least expect something to happen it does.

So now what? I make lemonade. Cheesy saying, but I will figure it out.

The Type A in me has a plan, but then I always have a plan. So Monday I came home and had a good cry (make that a few) and then I updated my resume, my LinkedIn, and started applying for jobs. Between Monday and this morning I have applied for about 25 jobs.

The good news?

  • 3 Phone Screens Today
  • 1 of those Phone Screens turned into an interview tomorrow
  • 1 Phone Screen on Friday
  • I have started networking, in person, via Facebook and Twitter
  • I am going to a Networking Group in early February
  • There are at least 15 friends who have sent emails, texts, and calls to support and even some suggestions of positions to apply for

Am I scared? Yes. Worried? Yes. But I know that I will find the right position eventually. It may not be tomorrow but it will be soon. I have hope and determination. I am a well qualified, educated woman and the right opportunity is out there.

Any suggestions for me? Know of any marketing positions open?

I’m really sorry to hear that Mellissa – but like you said, you’ve got a great attitude, are connected and proactive. I’m sure something will come up for you soon! Good luck :)
