Fitness Friday: After the Workout

How am I already in week 6 of bootcamp? I am loving the workouts, changing it up every 2 weeks and leaving the gym a sweaty mess. I feel strong! Losing weight was never my goal (and I do NOT need to lose any weight) but I have noticed some slight changes in my body, more defined arms and the start of a quad sweep. Very exciting. Keep those muscles coming, because strong is sexy.

Having recently moved from 4 workouts a week to 5 I have noticed that I need a little more post workout stretching and fuel. My two new close friends. The foam roller and the Vitamix blender. I have found that I need the foam rolling after the workouts and it has really helped with soreness. This is a great article about the benefits of foam rolling.







Enter a little food prep time the night before and a delicious smoothie made with the Vitamix. Pretty much any excuse to blend something makes me happy (I guess it really is the little things)




My post workout smoothie of choice (makes 2):


Berry Banana Power Smoothie

1/2 cup almond milk (a little more if you want it thinner)

2 huge handfuls of spinach

1/2 cup frozen berry blend (raspberries, strawberries and blueberries)

1 banana

2 scoops of vanilla protein powder

1 tbsp chia seeds

1 tbsp flax



I have been making a batch the night before a workout and having it in a bottle ready to go in the morning when I leave for the gym. As I walk into work the next morning with smoothie in hand I always get a weird look or two and a what the heck is that. But this is one delicious smoothie!
