Another found post from our Spain and Portugal trip in November 2011, enjoy Granada!
Tuesday afternoon we drove from Madrid to Granada, a four and a half hour drive through amazing mountainous roads. Switchback after switchback, even though it was mostly dark the views we breathtaking.
My Mom is afraid of heights and you could tell she was a little nervous, but Ron did a great job navigating a manual car in a foreign country. Having a GPS has been a life saver. There is no way we would be able to find our way with just a map.
A quick check in to the hotel and we wandered off to find some dinner. After a few wrong turns done some sketchy looking alleys we found Cafe Seville, a tapas bar. Ron and my Mom had a hard time finding anything to eat (darn picky eaters). The boyfriend and I ordered a plate of sausage to share and a big bowl of paella.
Wednesday morning we woke up bright and early to see the Alhambra and the royal cathedral, both were impressive! The history and the architectural detail from the 14th century is incredibly fascinating. What they were able to accomplish with so few tools.
The reset of the day was spent walking the city and then piled into our tiny car and headed towards Gibraltar.
