Fitness Friday: Getting Ready at the Gym

April 27, 2012

Last week of Bootcamp. Those 8 weeks went fast! I was crazy busy, had a few work trips, a surgery, we sold a house, and we moved. But I still managed to get most of my workouts in, except for when I was off because of surgery. I feel strong and am really glad I did something different for 8 weeks.

What I learned:

  • I need to work on liking cardio more, when I get in a zone and am doing intervals I feel so good after.
  • My body responded really well to changing up workouts more often, I will keep that in mind as I look for my next program.
  • Pushing myself is worth it. I should be pushing hard every single workout.
  • I will definitely do another bootcamp!

In other thoughts, I need to decide if I will keep getting ready at the gym. We moved very close to my gym location and our place is in between the gym and work. The question, do I keep getting ready  there? It started as a necessity when I would drive to a gym location close to work and it would have been 20-40 minutes to drive back home in traffic and then drive back to work. That just didn’t make sense. I got a gym bag and filled it with what I needed to get ready in the morning, my routine was done in 20-25 minutes and I would be on my way to work.

But now I end up passing home on the way to work after the gym. Do I keep getting ready there and using their water, electricity and towels that I pay for? Or do I drive back home (3-5 minutes) and get ready there? Am I wasting time driving to the gym, driving home and then driving to work? I am planner and really like to be organized and this may seem silly that I put this much thought into it but I am all about making the best use of my time.

I find that I’m much more efficient in getting ready at the gym. I don’t get side-tracked, I can’t change my mind on my outfit, and I’m out the door so much quicker. Plus, with one bathroom in our house, it makes it easier on both of us for me to get ready at the gym.

In the same breath, I like the flexibility if I just didn’t have my act together to pack my bag, etc.

That is what I was thinking too, granted Scott get ready in about 5 minutes. I am very quick when getting ready at the gym and I have my routine down to a science so I am leaning towards continuing to get ready there.

I always get ready much faster at the gym – at home, there are more distractions!

much more efficient at the gym…probably cleaner at home? depending on how often you clean your shower….and just less people’s germs. i always prefer getting ready at home, but know that at the gym i save a lot of time not dawdling like i do at home.

I just joined a gym that’s right smack in between my work and my home. It has nice amenities so I’ve been getting ready there. I also find that it’s much easier to stay focused getting ready when I’m at the gym. The downside is I have to plan everything in advance including my outfit and shoes and I don’t like carrying a huge bag full of stuff but it is worth it. Plus you don’t have to use your own towels or electricity. Win!
