Meal Planning and a Giveaway

July 1, 2012

Taking the time to plan meals for the week can be difficult, but it does help you save money at the grocery store and make sure you have what you need in the house for healthy meals. I came across a free app for my iPhone called Food on the Table.  Both a web and mobile service that creates meal plans and generates grocery lists. After selecting food preferences and dietary needs, members can choose from various recipes that fit their lifestyle, and Food on the Table automatically builds a grocery list for each item needed. It then goes a step further by showing the user local sales on grocery list items. It is meant to take the stress out of meal planning by providing recipes, organizing a grocery list, and fitting into your budget.

Really easy to use! I just picked a few recipes, had my list and it let me know where it was on sale.

This week I am making

Orange Marmalade Pork Tenderloin

Sirloin Steaks with Garlic Butter

Garlic Lemon Pepper Herb Shrimp Kabobs

Food on the Table wants you to try their service and they are giving away a $25 gift certificate to the grocery store of your choice. Free  groceries are a really good thing!

Want to win a $25 gift card to the grocery store of your choosing? Just tell me what you dislike most about meal planning and grocery shopping. Food on the Table can probably help you with that! I will pick a random winner and announce on Thursday, July 5th.

I hate it when i think i have EVERYTHING planned out and all of the ingredients listed on my grocery list and then when i start to cook, I find that an ingredient didnt make it onto the grocery list or I thought I had the item and didnt need to buy it when I actually did! :)

i always meal plan, but my least favorite part is figuring out which stores to purchase certain items at. i usually split my shopping between two places, and unless i’m really careful, i end up forgetting to pick up at least one thing between my multiple stops. :(

I really enjoy meal planning, but hate it when I have a plan and then decide I want something else. :)

I don’t have a great system down pat yet, so I dislike the time it takes to meal plan. Also, it is tough to plan something for a certain day and then not really crave it.

I really only plan meals during the school year – but I find that in the summer I spend far more on groceries because I don’t plan! ugh!

The thing I do not like about meal planning is when things come up, like an impromptu happy hour or meal out, and you end up wasting some of the delicious groceries you picked up during the week.

I stink at meal planning, so maybe this app will be helpful!! Really great idea.

i dislike the crowds in the grocery store – many folks are mean and impatient.

I don’t hate meal planning. I just hate that I have to choose from all the inspiration, cutting it down to a manageable amount. And I hate that I can’t just cook all day long like I’d prefer to be doing.

I always forget to put something on my list and have to go back halfway through the week. It drives me insane!

I meal plan like its my job! My husband just can’t wrap his brain around it – he’s always saying “how do I know I’ll feel like pork chops on Thursday?!”

I like the part of meal planning that involves creating yummy meals, it’s coordinating me and my husband’s schedules that I dislike!

what I dislike most about grocery shopping is having to pay MORE for healthy food… I think junk food should cost more and healthy food cost less..then America wouldn’t have an obesity problem!! (but that’s just my opinion!)

I hate meal planning for lunches at work because my food never keeps the way it was made. It falls apart on the way to work, gets soggy, or just doesn’t taste as good when it’s reheated.

I try to save money where ever possible and I hate spending time matching up sales at stores with recipes that I’ve got. It takes too much time. I’ve recently joined a veggie and fruit share group and we get items in season. I love the variety but now I have to figure out how to use items I’ve never used before. Hello okra! ;-)

Hope I made it in time…
I dislike grocery shopping because I get carried away. I can’t stick to a list and end up buying too much stuff. And meal planning requires you to be somewhat organized — which I am not! LOL
